Updated statement on use of respiratory therapies with regards to CoVID-19

The ASA’s statement on the safe use of respiratory therapies to minimise spread of CoVID-19 has been updated. Key changes include:

  • Emphasis on assessing risk in each situation, including risk of the individual having CoVID-19, risk of the current setting and risk of cessation of treatment 
  • Highlighting the importance of seeking expert input to ensure that cessation of therapy is safe, and if not determining where appropriate care can be provided 
  • Specific recommendations for hospital, home and hotel quarantine settings

New permission and preference options

Thank you to those who have already updated their permissions and preferences, these will take effect in the coming months.

 

If you haven't already updated your permissions, we need you to update your account with us so we can communicate with you about our services and provide you with member benefits. In some instances, we need to share your personal information with organisations overseas who work with us to provide services and benefits, and we have a new consent statement that specifically covers this circumstance. You can read all the details in our new privacy policy.

Mentorship Program 2021 - deadline extended

The deadline for applications to the mentorship program for 2021 has been extended to Friday 16 April 2021.

The mentorship program is open to all ASA members. The Research Committee will facilitate the matching and provide mentor-mentee introductions via email. The program is expected to run for 6 months from April to October. During this time, monthly meetings can be held virtually. The program culminates with a final meeting at Sleep DownUnder, Brisbane 2021. A feedback questionnaire will be sent to all participants at the end of the program.

Clocking up: What time should I take this medicine?

Chronotherapy involves altering the timing of medication administration in synchrony with the body’s circadian rhythms for the purpose of improving clinical outcomes and/or minimising adverse effects of medications. In order to achieve this, clinicians need to have a basic understanding of drug disposition and how the circadian clocks affects this, as well as circadian physiology. Join Professor Bandana Saini  and A/Professor Craig Phillips as they describe key terms used in chronotherapy, highlight examples where chronotherapy has shown to be effective and discuss practical applications of research evidence so far.
