Awards closing soon!

Hurray submissions for the following awards close Friday 1 July: 

  • Helen Bearpark Scholarship
    This scholarship is to facilitate international travel and exchange in order to develop skills in sleep research or clinical sleep medicine. 
  • Nick Antic Career Development Award 
    This award is intended to assist an ASA member to develop experience or knowledge to support their development as a leader in the field of sleep. 
  • Fisher & Paykel Sleep Research Travel Award 
    This award will support an early or mid-career researcher for travel and accommodation costs that will further that researcher's field of study, or showcase the researcher's sleep research to a scientific audience.
  • NEST mentor award
    The Network for Early career Sleep researchers in Training (NEST) have established a new award that recognises and honours an exceptional mentor in the fields of sleep health and sleep science.

Applications must be submitted online via the ASA website by Friday 1st July 2022. 

The successful applicants will be announced at the annual scientific conference - Sleep DownUnder 2022 in Brisbane 7-11 November. 


 
 

Dr Alex Sweetman to lead Commonwealth grant program

 

The ASA is pleased to announce that Dr Alex Sweetman will join the staff team on 11 July to lead the three-year Commonwealth grant program.

Bench-side to bedside: translational science success stories from respiratory and sleep physicians
This webinar is aimed to inspire and disseminate understanding the importance of translational research in respiratory and sleep clinical practice. Translational science is the step away from treatment reaching to patients. In this webinar speakers will demonstrate their own translational examples in practice where bench-side has come to the rescue in critical bed-side patients. It will also act as ground for inspiration to young physicians (or ECRs) who feel they are confined to one side of the coin, and think it is hard to trek the course of both practice and research. On the contrary, speakers will showcase having conquered both sides of the coin.

Sleep in individuals with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury
Sleep is especially impaired in individuals who have a Traumatic Brain Injury or Spinal Cord Injury. However, sleep disorders in both groups are under-recognized, underdiagnosed, and untreated for a substantial majority of patients. This webinar aims to drive an increase in awareness and improve sleep disorder management in these patient populations.
