From Alex Sweetman

Thank you to everyone that attended the recent ASA Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia workshops with Michael Perlis and Donn Posner in Brisbane and Melbourne. Michael and Donn have extensive experience in the assessment and management of insomnia with CBT-I. We have already received excellent feedback from attendees about how informative and interesting these workshops were, and the importance of education opportunities such as this.

Brisbane CBT-I Workshop.

Melbourne CBT-I Workshop.

Australian and international evidence-based insomnia Guidelines strongly recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia as the ‘first line’ treatment for chronic insomnia, however very few Australians with insomnia access CBT-I. Training more clinicians and researchers in the delivery and dissemination of CBT-I is vital to reduce this evidence-practice gap. Therefore, it was wonderful to see so many attendees with an interest in increasing knowledge of CBT-I.

The Behavioural Management of Sleep Disorders education subcommittee are hosting four online professional development sessions for Workshop attendees to meet some of the Australian experts, discuss CBT-I cases, and learn about insomnia and CBT-I in the Australian context. We recently hosted the first or 4 weekly online professional development sessions. Please contact me at [email protected] for details about these professional development sessions.
