Vacancies open for MSAC and PBAC

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is calling for expressions of interest for key committees that regulate the public health system in Australia.

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) is an independent expert body appointed by the Australian Government. Members include doctors, health professionals, health economists and consumer representatives. Its primary role is to recommend new medicines for listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). No new medicine can be listed unless the committee makes a positive recommendation. The PBAC also makes recommendations regarding vaccines. The PBAC meets three times a year, usually in March, July and November.

The Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) is an independent expert body that assesses health services and technologies for public funding such as creating new Medicare item numbers and making changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule. 

Expressions of interest are also open or sub-committees of these two important committees.Expressions of interest will be accepted until 11.30am AEDT on Monday 12 December.
