Driving and Your Health
The Australasian Sleep Association has been proud to have contributed to the recently announced Driving and Your Health campaign, launched by Austroads and the National Transport Commission. The program is aimed at commercial drivers and transport operators with practical information to help them address health issues such as sleep disorders.
The key aims of the campaign are
- Keeping drivers safe and healthy
- Keeping them on the road
The catchphrase of the campaign is “Commercial drivers are encouraged to think about it”.
Public awareness will be raised through various media outlets, including on the truckers radio website The Big Rig.
The Assessing Fitness to Drive document can be downloaded from the Austroads website.
A comprehensive resource kit and other information can be downloaded from the NTC website, including an excellent fact sheets on Sleep Disorders and Driving. I would strongly urge all practitioners and laboratories to consider downloading this information sheet to give out to individuals, or have it displayed in your clinics and laboratories.
